This weekend was a lovely time celebrating the love of two dear friends and their union. Not only was I honored to style this beautiful bride, we spent the whole weekend filled with friends, family and so much love your heart can burst! It is the day after I came back from the Mission Ranch Hotel in Carmel, CA and my heart and soul is still buzzing from the wonder and joy that sparked through this weekend. I'm convinced it is LOVE that made her hairstyle last perfectly through the evening while dancing and being whipped around on the dance floor...and maybe a little help from SEVEN Fini hairspray available at The Local Salon NoHo, CA. I'm happy to experience love and beauty in life.

I love the little breaks I get from the hustle and bustle of LA. A breath of fresh air if you will. Every other month I drive up the 395 to beautify the mountains in Mammoth Lakes, CA.
I style at Profiles salon, which is above the best second hand store in town and next to a brand new bowling alley and entertainment center (currently the talk of the town). This is the view we have in the cozy three chair salon on the second floor. Being in there never feels like work. I'm surrounded by majestic beauty of nature. Mammoth has so much to offer aside from the best skiing and snowboarding in California. There are great trails for hiking and biking, camping, fishing, boating, bird watching...the list goes on. The lakes are gorgeous. And there are lots of great eateries in town. All of this is a 5 hour drive from LA, 8000 feet elevation and 15-20 degrees cooler. Thank you Mammoth for all that you have to offer! Im trying something new this season. I find fall/winter to be a difficult season for me to dress. I live in LA where we have plenty of sunshine and not many chances to wear typical seasonal wear including warm coats. I will be, what I call, closet shopping. Going into the depths of my closet to find items I have not worn in a while and shopping for new items that I can add to my everyday looks.
I love a classic vintage look with lots of color. In the cooler seasons, my look completely changes. Here, I still have a classic inspired look. Sandals are ok to wear in the fall in LA. My top is a wool minidress paired with a vintage circle skirt. I brightened up this ensemble with a new giant purple necklace. I am loving this new necklace, as it's going to be a staple throughout the holidays. Now if I only had a colorful simple knit dress. Pants is a whole other story that does not work for me at the moment. I have started a lookbook to get inspired and feedback on what others think. Click on the link above to check out what Iv'e come up with . Feel free to leave a comment or suggestions. A night of mexican wrestling, burlesque, and comedy. You can't ask for more at Lucha Vavoom. Since 2002, Lucha has been putting on a most fantastic unique experience of entertainment. It's been years since Iv'e gone. We ended up with ringside seats this Halloween. Everyone looked amazing in their costumes or decadent evening wear. I went as my version of Katrina (Grace Jones) from the 80's cult horror film Vamp. Heisenberg and his bag (lady friend) of blue crystal meth won the $250 costume contest. Highlights aside from the obvious was the glow in the dark midget wrestling and thriller side show (not going to be pc about that one), pole burlesque, and Cassandro! Lucha Vavoom happens around Valentines and Halloween. Can't wait for next year. I'm in a featured article in Beyond Black & White. It's titled Retro Chic with Sandra D by Demita Usher. Enjoy. Thanks Demita!
I'm in the zone. It's been a long time since feeling this inspired. I attended the Avalon Ball this past weekend and had a grand time. When I got back to work, the salon had received a ton of upcoming hair events. I'm particular about which of these shows to go to, however, the 2012 Davines show seems fun. I checked out some of the photos from this past years' event, and wow! I'm truly inspired. I've had every style you can possibly imagine. Super long (to the knees) to shaved. Bobbed, pixie cut, spiked, mohawked, shaved one side, shaved two sides, shaved all around, dread extensions, braid extensions, braid and dread extensions together, bangs, no bangs, betty bangs, the no bang bang, angled bangs, every shaped bangs, and don't get me started on colors. It has been done already. Even colors without a proper name. I've been growing my hair with a similar color pattern for the past 10 years. And lately, I've been sporting this cool, long version, a symmetrical cut. My new challenge is to combine long and short hairstyles. The photo above is of me today. Nothing special. It was a bit windy. I will be documenting these fun changes. Starting tomorrow...Stay tuned! This year I became a certified Deva Stylist. I've been a hairstylist for some time. When I think that nothing more can be done...I hear about the Deva technique.
Their system is very unique. It's the highest consentration of botanically infused products out there and they do NOT use a comb when cutting the hair. Which makes sense. If you wear you hair curly all the time, why stretch out the curl? It just creates more frizz. There is absolutely no sulfates in their cleansing/conditiong agents. NONE! Cleansing is done with the product + friction. Sound crazy? Well maybe...all the curly girls and guys need to retrain the way they take care of their hair. The no sulfates plus botanical infusion creates moisture moisture moisture. Which equals NO FRIZZ. Go figure! Deva is a whole new concept of soft natural curls. I have wavy hair and notice a huge difference in moisture and anti frizz. Capella Salon has the highest amount of certified Deva stylists in LA.
